Custom Design

Our specialty…bring us a picture form the internet, a sketch on a cocktail napkin, or just your vision of the perfect piece of jewelry and we will bring it to life. From concept to creation, we have our clients approve the design every step of the way. Learn more about our custom design process here.

At Highland Diamond, you can see your design come to life before your eyes in three dimensions, using the latest CAD (computer aided design) software. You become the designer as you zoom in, out and rotate your piece to see and fine tune all details of the piece you created that we will make perfect just for you.

REPURPOSING OLD JEWELRY
One of the questions we get asked most is if we can take old or out-of-date jewelry and make it into something new. The answer is YES! Bring us your old, broken, unwanted jewelry, or your most prized family heirloom piece that is just not your style, and we’ll transform them into a piece of jewelry that you’ll love to wear, using all of the same materials and keeping all of the same sentimental value.

Your final design is cast in gold, platinum or other metal of your choice. The rough casting(s) are meticulously cleaned and polished. Connecting or other integrating components are created by hand where necessary and gemstones are set. A final polish and deep clean is done to maximize the brilliance, shine and texture which brings out the beauty and perfection of the details.

CAD Rendering

We begin with the concept. Using Computer Aided Design software, we create a set of 3D images (called renders) that allow our clients to visualize what the final product will look like. Here any changes can be easily made in the computer program before moving on to the next step.

Wax Mold

Once the final computer design is approved, the design file is plugged into a 3D printing machine. Using a wax resin material, the machine “grows” a wax mold of the piece. This mold can be physically inspected and tried on before being approved for the next step of production.

Casting

The wax mold is placed into our oven and then casted into the desired metal. Upon cooling, the raw casting is then thoroughly polished and prepped for the final stage of production. Here the client can see what the piece what will look like before any stones are set.

Finishing

In this final phase, stones are measured and selected to be set into the metal piece using a microscope to establish perfect positioning. Once all stones are set and tightened, any special textures are then added to the metal, such as engraving or milgrain. Lastly, the finished piece gets a final polishing and cleaning to bring it to its pristine final form.
